Scorpion’s Law: When does the scorpion sting itself?
Scorpion’s Law
When does the scorpion sting itself?
I am not sure if this really happens, supposing it happens, it will be a tragedy when the scorpion sting itself while trying to protect it, which may lead to its death, and this what I call “Scorpion’s Law.”
In real life the Scorpion’s Law applied in different forms on various levels, for example, the immune system could attack the human body organ(s) thinking it is a strange intruder and destroying these organ(s) will protect the human body but actually, it leads to death.
During COVID-19 global crisis, many medium/large organizations applying the Scorpion’s Law extensively, trying to protect the business. They do self-murder.
World pollical and economic status, after COVID-19, won’t be the same as we experienced in the last two decades, it will change holistically, and nobody can expect how much change will be. The leadership of medium/large organizations trying to adapt to change to protect the business and decided to cut costs by terminating their employees to reduce manpower by 50% to 70%, which will have a direct impact on the company’s capabilities to face the new near future.
The actions taken by the organization’s leadership are similar to make a spaceship with an axe from the stone age. You should NOT use outdated tools or procedures to shape your future; this will be the scorpion sting to itself.
Better if they:
- Keep the maximum essential employment they can keep, and redirect the hold projects budget to train the employees and maximize their skill set to understand new business concepts and enable them to perform new business tasks.
- Explore IT solution to move to full digital transformation that will help to keep business continuity and remote management, also build a suitable infrastructure to support this
- Make new business models, protocols, policies, rules, and business processes that enable employees to work from home with maximum expected productivity.
- Apply for the work from home and remote management on a large scale in business in order to minimize costs and maximize work benefits, the best example for this is the Twitter company as it has asked their employees to continue working from home even after COVID-19 is over.
These could be some basic guidelines that could enlighten organizations leaders not to follow Scorpion’s Law and find out new tools to shape the business future in the right way by using the right tools.
