Braintwister | A New Creativity Thinking Model

Introduction

Braintwister model is the new creative thinking model.

In 1953, author Alex Osborn in his book “Applied Imagination,” presented “Brainstorming” as a new creativity model of thinking. It was a significant leap in the creative thinking of groups that uses the synergy of minds and thinking development to produce & innovative new ideas.

The need for a new creativity thinking model has increased because of the development of technology, ease of access to information from different knowledge resources and the enormous ability of the human mind to think and to innovate, so it is necessary to develop this new model for individuals as they are the original source of innovative ideas which groups work on developing it in Brainstorming sessions.

Braintwister model is the new creative thinking model for individuals that helps to generate ideas, chooses their best, and organizes it in the simplest form with deep understanding.

Braintwister Model

If someone has many concerns and interests, he may engage in multiple things at the same time and begins to think about them all simultaneously with “0” focus if he is not aware of his priorities. With this kind of disordered thinking, ideas begin to mix, overlap and complicate in a form similar to spaghetti.

Braintwister model can regulate and organize the process of thinking from the emergence of ideas in mind of the thinker till maturity and exit of it in crystal clear form. This model works in the mind of individual – not the group – to develop/innovate a new idea or to choose an idea among several ones based on the understanding of them, its priority, and desire to implement it.

Braintwister differs from the Brainstorm model which works with a group of minds to develop an idea or several ideas, but Braintwister works with individual minds to dot the same. Also, Braintwister may work in an earlier or later stage of the Brainstorming model to develop & innovate a specific idea(s) in one’s mind. In other words, the Braintwister model can prepare ideas and mature it in the individual’s mind before discussing it in the group’s Brainstorming sessions.

This model is a two-stage model, the first on the vertical level and the second on the horizontal level where the vertical part describes the emergence of an idea and promoting it in mind to highest possible layer as declared in (Figure 1), while the horizontal part describes the understanding of the idea and believe in the ability to implement it as declared in (Figure 2).

Vertical Stage:

Vertical-Phase-Levels

It represents the emergence of the idea from the subconscious mind and promoting it in the conscious mind to this highest possible layer. The number of layers varies from one idea to another according to its simplicity or complexity. As shown in (Figure 1) the layers of the twister symbolized as L0, L1, L2, .. & Lm represent the degrees of maturity and evolution of the idea in the individual’s mind.

Layer L0:  Where emergence of a brand new idea in mind of the thinker which no one thinks of it before him and never been experienced before. Layers L1, L2, …& Lx: According to an understanding degree, ideas from past experiences may be triggered to emerge at L1, L2 or upper layer to be evolved and promoted to highest layer in the twister, for example, maybe an individual heard an idea from someone and this idea settled in his subconscious mind for a while then according to his understanding of this idea it been triggered to emerge at L2  layer of the twister to be evolved & promoted to the highest layer Lm.

Layer Lm: It is the last and highest layer of the twister, which represents the maturity of an idea in the conscious mind; the idea has to pass up all lower levels of evolution to reach this layer.

Horizontal Stage:

Horizontal-Phase-Depthes

The horizontal stage represented in a spiral form that reflects “Depth”  of understanding of the idea, the believing in the ability to implement it, and the desire to achieve it. Where each helix shows a degree of “Depth” of understanding and clarity until the core point Dn, which represents full understanding and fully believing in the idea.

As shown in  (Figure 2) the Depths (helixes) of the spiral symbolized as D0, D1, D2,…Dy, & Dn. After the differentiation of ideas during vertical stage  the final idea reaches the highest layer Lm and located in helix D0, so the current location is “LmD0”, with the deeper reflection on the idea in depth and collecting of necessary analytical information, it grows deeper understanding of the idea and believing in the ability to implement it, the more understanding and believing the more idea goes deeper from Depth D0 to the inner depths till it reaches to the core “LmDn” where it is full of comprehension, clarity and believing in.

Depth D0: the outer depth that receives the promoted idea from the twister layers.

Depth D1, D2,…Dy:  the middle depths where the idea moves with more in-depth understanding

and believing in the ability to implement it.

Depth Dn: The core depth of the spiral where the idea is full of comprehension, clarity, and believing in.

Mathematical model of Braintwister

0-5

In Braintwister model idea has 3 possible locations: a newly born idea at L0D0, the mature idea at

LmDn, and the idea under development LxDy can be found somewhere between L0D0 & LmDn.

Maturity of an idea depends on its location on the vertical and horizontal levels  andcan be measured by calculating the  percentage of maturity value “Vx” using the Braintwister

the mathematical model formula is shown below:

Example

To illustrate how the Braintwister works on the vertical and horizontal levels using the mathematical the formula, let us see this example:

Let us assume there is a brand new idea that emerged in the mind of someone, and he is going to evolve it using the Braintwister model on both vertical and horizontal levels.

Let the idea be, “I want to live in my own home.”

The new idea will begin in L0, with idea owner thinking, understanding, and believing, it will be

evolved to  higher layers in the twister as follows (Figure 3):

First: At the vertical level

  • In L0, “I want to live in my own home.”
  • In L1, “I want to live in an apartment.”
  • In L2, “I want to live in a big apartment.”
  • In L3, “I want to build my own villa.”
  • In L4, “I will build my own Palace.”

Here we note the evolution of the idea of housing until stability in top layer L4 and deciding on constructing a palace to live in.

Second: At the horizontal level:

As we reached the highest layer of the twister, the final idea settled at L4D0. This is where the data collection and analysis of the idea begins in order to increase comprehension and complete details. With more information and deep understanding, the idea moves to inner depths than to the core at L4D4 as follows (Figure4):

In D0, “What is the size of the palace? And how much will it cost me?”

In D1, “Where to build the palace? And when I can live in it?”

In D3, “how is the palace design looks like?”

In D4, the center of twister L4D4, the thinker ( idea owner) believing in his ability to

build a palace and understanding completely what he is going to do to implement his idea.

This can be ascertained by applying the mathematical formula:

Where: Lm = 4, Lx = 4 & Dn = 4, Dy = 4

Braintwister model can be used to organize and promote simple & complex ideas as well as holistic and partial ideas. Soon I will publish a book to explain the rules and controls of evolving ideas from layer to another and from depth to another at both vertical and horizontal levels. Finally, illustrate the different uses of the Braintwister model and details of the reciprocal relationship between the Braintwister and Brainstorming.
